Connecting Illinois to the Nation

The Illinois Water Resources Center represents the University of Illinois or the state as a whole in three national organizations that promote water-related research, education, and public outreach—the National Institutes for Water Resources (NIWR), the University Council on Water Resources (UCOWR), and the Consortium of Universities for the Advancement of Hydrologic Science, Inc. (CUAHSI). These memberships allow Illinois researchers and students to connect with others working on water resource issues through data sharing, workshops, trainings, and conferences.

Our NIWR membership qualifies Illinois researchers to receive up to $250,000 through the National Competitive Grants Program. Graduate students can also apply for the CUAHSI Pathfinder Fellowship, which provides up to $5,000 in travel funds to support additional field research and inter-disciplinary collaboration. And Illinois researchers and students are eligible for UCOWR career and dissertation awards as a result of this connection.
