Annual Small Grants
Annual Small Grants are competitively awarded to Illinois graduate students and their project advisors. Approximately $40,000 is available each year for research focused on agricultural land use, wetland restoration, water quality, stormwater management, emerging contaminants, and other key water resource issues.
Eligible proposals must be submitted by a faculty member or professional affiliated with Illinois four-year institutions, state or local government agencies, or non-profits. Students can be listed as co-PIs, and the funds must be used to support a student project.
National Competitive Grants
The National Competitive Grants Program offers up to $250,000 for projects that address large, regional water resource issues and promote collaboration between universities and the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). The annual program is funded by USGS and the National Institutes for Water Resources. Awards are administered through the Illinois Water Resources Center.
All Illinois researchers employed by an institution of higher learning are eligible to apply. We recommend researchers contact Lisa Merrifield prior to submitting a proposal.
